HASTELLOY

HASTELLOY are widely used by the chemical processing industries. The need for reliable performance leads to their acceptance and growth in the areas of energy, health and environmental, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and flue gas desulfurization industries. The attributes of HASTELLOY include high resistance to uniform attack, outstanding localized corrosion resistance, excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance, and ease of welding and fabrication.

Hastelloy possesses outstanding resistance to non-oxidizing acids, such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. The advantages of Hastelloy B-3 alloy over previous B-family alloys are enhanced thermal stability and improved fabrication characteristics.

The most versatile of the HASTELLOY are the “C-type” alloys. Alloy C-276 a Versatile, corrosion resistant alloy. Very good resistance to reducing, and mildly oxidizing corrosives. Excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance with very good resistance to localized attack. C-2000 alloy combines outstanding resistance to oxidizing media with superior resistance to non-oxidizing environments and represents a true performance breakthrough for chemical process equipment applications.  C-22 alloy is particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion; it has been used extensively to protect against the most corrosive FGD systems and the most sophisticated pharmaceutical reaction vessels.

Hastelloy B-2 Alloy

Alloy B2 (UNS N10665 / W.Nr. 2.4617) is a solid solution strengthened, nickel-molybdenum alloy, typically used in extreme reducing conditions. B2 has significantly lower carbon, silicon and iron compared to its’ predecessor, Alloy B (UNS N10001), making the alloy less susceptible to decreased corrosion resistance in the weld zone, in the as-welded condition. Controlling other alloying elements such as iron and chromium
solved other issues concerning fabricability.

Stringent chemistry control along with years of development has resulted in the alloy used today, both in Alloy B2 and Alloy B-3 Today, Alloy B2 with restricted chemistry can be used in the welded condition and is less susceptible to SCC under many conditions. As always, care must taken in selecting the right alloy for the desired application.

Alloy B2 should not be used at temperatures between 1000°F and 1600°F as the alloy forms secondary phases that could decrease the ductility of the material.

Available Product Forms:
Plate, Sheet, Bar, Pipe

Hastelloy B3 Alloy

HASTELLOY B-3 alloy (UNS N10675) is an excellent resistance alloy to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures. It also withstands sulfuric, acetic, formic and phosphoric acids, and other nonoxidizing media. B-3 alloy has a special chemistry designed to achieve a level of thermal stability greatly superior to that of its predecessors, e.g. HASTELLOY B-2 alloy. B-3 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, to stress-corrosion cracking and to knife-line and heat-affected zone attack.

Hastelloy C-22 Alloy

Hastelloy C-22 Alloy 22 (UNS N06022; W. Nr. 2.4602; NiCr21Mo14W) is a fully austenitic advanced corrosion-resistant alloy that offers resistance to both aqueous corrosion and attack at elevated temperatures. This alloy provides exceptional resistance to general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack, and stress corrosion cracking. Alloy 22 has found numerous applications in the chemical/petrochemical processing, pollution control (flue gas desulfurization), power, marine, pulp and paper processing, and waste disposal industries.

Alloy 22 is nickel-base and typically contains 22% chromium, 14% molybdenum, and 3% tungsten. Iron is normally limited to less than 3%. The alloy’s high content of chromium gives it good resistance to wet corrosion by oxidizing media (e.g., nitric acid and ferric and cupric salts). Its contents of molybdenum and tungsten give the alloy resistance to wet reducing media (e.g., sulfuric and hydrochloric acids). Alloy 22 exhibits excellent resistance to corrosive attack by seawater under stagnant and flowing conditions.

At elevated temperatures, the high chromium level of Hastelloy C-22 Alloy helps it resist oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation. Since it is nickel-base, alloy 22 resists high temperature attack by halides (e.g., chlorides and fluorides). With these attributes, the alloy is widely used to protect steel tubes and other components in coal-fired and waste-to-energy boilers.

Available Product Forms:

Hastelloy C-276 Alloy

Hastelloy C276, Alloy C-276, Nickel C-276; Nickelvac HC-276, Inconel C-276, Nicrofer 5716

Alloy  (UNS N10276, W.Nr. 2.4819) is known for its corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive media. The high molybdenum content imparts resistance to localized corrosion such as pitting. The low carbon minimizes carbide precipitation during welding to maintain resistance to intergranular attack in heat-affected zones of welded joints. It is used in chemical processing, pollution control, pulp and paper production, industrial and municipal waste treatment and the recovery of “sour” natural gas. Applications in air pollution control include stack liners, ducts, dampers, scrubbers, stack-gas re-heaters, fans and fan housings. In chemical processing, the alloy is used for components including heat exchangers, reaction vessels, evaporators and transfer piping.

Hastelloy C-276 Alloy has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizers such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encounted in most scrubbers. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress-corrosion cracking. It is also one of the few materials that withstands the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.
